Friendship – A Foundation of Success
Friendship is an intimate relationship of mutual love between two people, typically including close family members. It is an important form of interpersonal relationship, compared to an intimate relationship, and has been researched in many academic disciplines including anthropology, communication, psychology, sociology, communication, and human relations. It is also the strongest form of personal bond, in comparison to a marriage, and is often considered to be one of the most important relationships in a person’s life.
People may have a variety of relationships with their friends, including close friends, casual acquaintances, or perhaps even an intimate partner. However, friendship is generally defined by the level of trust that is present between a couple. In fact, it has been found that the strongest forms of friendship are those that come from a familial, community, or religious context. Friendships also occur between business acquaintances, with coworkers, and among friends who are not formally connected.
As you can see, there is a plethora of people and situations in which friendships develop and mature, all in the course of the individuals’ lives. The amount of time spent developing a friendship, and the degree to which it involves a specific level of trust, is important.
Many of the most important relationships in our lives involve friendships with other people. For example, people who have developed deep, loving relationships with their parents are often called “sibling,” and they remain close to their parents for a number of years as they reach adulthood. Similarly, people who have had a lifelong friendship with their spouse or significant other may be called “partner,” and may remain together for the remainder of their lives.
There are also personal bonds between people, such as in families, where close family members share the same values, beliefs, and hobbies. These types of friendships often provide the greatest opportunity for building lasting relationships, since many of these people share a history, and their children grow up together.
Relationships are also formed by friendships with strangers, or people we do not know. Sometimes these relationships can last for years, creating a sense of lifelong connection between the two people who share the friendship, or those who may become friends later on.
When it comes to building relationships, it is important to ensure that the relationship is based on mutual respect. Respect can be defined as being respectful of another’s right to say things that are not acceptable and to question others’ ideas and assumptions. Respect also includes not taking offense at other people, even if the tone is negative or hurtful.
One of the most important aspects of developing a relationship is establishing a foundation of trust between the two people involved in the friendship. If there are any areas of trust, it is imperative that these areas be in place before the relationship begins to develop.
Once established, building a friendship is very easy to maintain. Although most relationships begin in a casual context, once they have matured, you will find that they tend to deepen, as well as provide a level of comfort and security for both parties.

If there are people in your life that continually disappoint you, break promises, stomp on your dreams, too judgmental, have different values and don’t have your back during difficult times…they are not friends.
To have a friend, you have to be a friend.
Sometimes in life as you grow, your friends will either grow or go.
Surround yourself with people who have high values, goals, interests and a clean lifestyle.
Don’t spend major time with minor people.
When I think of any of my successes, I am thankful to GOD from whom all blessings flow, and to my family and friends that enrich my life.
Over the years my phone book has changed because I changed for the better.
At first you think you’re going to be alone, but after a while new people show up in your life that make your life so much sweeter and easier to endure.
Remember what your elders used to say,
“Birds of the same feather always stay together.”
If you’re an eagle,
don’t hang around with the chickens
because chickens can’t fly.
